Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month or so, then you already know that New Orleans MC, Lil Wayne sold an unprecedented million copies of Tha Carter III his first week out. Therefore, I’ll skip the A Milli/a million puns about the album sales. “A Milli” hit the airwaves and the internet as Wayne’s, train of thought, non sequitur street opus and connected with audiences almost instantly. The repetitive chanting, mixed with a hard bass line, kicks and snares and the overall simplicity of the beat produced by Bangladesh, made a perfect platform for any MC to spit breathless bars over. Since the song was released it seems every living MC took their turn showing what they can do over the instrumental. Wayne snatches the song back and shows everyone who the rightful owner is by finally releasing a video of the original version. The concept of the video is a day in the life of the consummate worker Lil Wayne, as he heads to the set for a video shoot. The video is done in one single shot and leaves the viewer hanging by a thread at the end as “to be continued” is flashed across the screen.
nation’s edit: Although this is the last version to leak, this is actually the very first version they shot. They scrapped it, filmed the one that leaked this weekend, scrapped that and released the one with Rita G.
Kanye West’s original Flashing Lights video which was co-directed by Spide Jonze along with Kanye himself, could be considered one of Kanye’s most controversial music video. In it, Kanye is driven off into the desert by a women who bludgeons West to death for supposedly cheating on his girl and being caught by the paparazzi’s “flashing lights”. Here is a look at a new video for Flashing Lights which is much less violent but still portrays the essence of “Flashing Lights”. In this video, you follow a girl (presumably a model) and her glitz and glamorous lifestyle which ends in nothing but tragedy.
Kanye makes an admirable effort to pretend it’s hot.
After the vibrant, artsy look of their last two videos D.A.N.C.E. and DVNO, Parisian electronica duo Justice take a decidedly different direction with their newest video for their throbbing synth banger “Stress.” The Romain-Gavras directed clip, which recently premiered on Kanye West’s blog, follows a group of young delinquents (all rocking Justice’s cross logo on their jackets) as they rage through the streets, fighting pedestrians, destroying cars and generally causing mayhem. Sounds like Grand Theft Auto meets Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange. SEE HERE

Fortunately, the industry was looking for something new. An old-fashioned bidding war erupted. After receiving three offers from major labels, a last-minute request came in from Jay-Z. “On that Friday, he knew nothing about me,” says Slim. “But he heard my stuff, talked with L.A. Reid over the weekend, and came back with the best offer.”
