The act of an established MC providing a platform for his artists after he achieves a level of success has become an expected tradition in Hip Hop. After conquering the mix tape game, the billboard charts, the Grammys and silencing a dwindling group of naysayers, Lil Wayne now directs the spotlight squarely on the members of his record label, Young Money. On the hyper infectious introductory track “Every Girl” Lil Wayne provides some mic time for MCs Drake, Jae Millz, Gudda and Mack Maine. Never the one for subtlety, Lil Wayne and crew express their love for the fairer sex in the only way they know how, with auto tune and explicitness.

It seems every other day we get a behind the scenes glimpse of this green screen footage. We already got to see Pusha’s footage of him running through his verse on the set now we get to see a sneak peak of Yeezy and P. These sneak peaks are good and everything but this better be the best video ever after all the pre-game hype. Word is the official video is dropping this week (thank God) and we’ll have that up as soon as it comes out. But for now just gawk and Kanye’s snakes skin baseball jacket.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month or so, then you already know that New Orleans MC, Lil Wayne sold an unprecedented million copies of Tha Carter III his first week out. Therefore, I’ll skip the A Milli/a million puns about the album sales. “A Milli” hit the airwaves and the internet as Wayne’s, train of thought, non sequitur street opus and connected with audiences almost instantly. The repetitive chanting, mixed with a hard bass line, kicks and snares and the overall simplicity of the beat produced by Bangladesh, made a perfect platform for any MC to spit breathless bars over. Since the song was released it seems every living MC took their turn showing what they can do over the instrumental. Wayne snatches the song back and shows everyone who the rightful owner is by finally releasing a video of the original version. The concept of the video is a day in the life of the consummate worker Lil Wayne, as he heads to the set for a video shoot. The video is done in one single shot and leaves the viewer hanging by a thread at the end as “to be continued” is flashed across the screen.

Kanye West’s original Flashing Lights video which was co-directed by Spide Jonze along with Kanye himself, could be considered one of Kanye’s most controversial music video. In it, Kanye is driven off into the desert by a women who bludgeons West to death for supposedly cheating on his girl and being caught by the paparazzi’s “flashing lights”. Here is a look at a new video for Flashing Lights which is much less violent but still portrays the essence of “Flashing Lights”. In this video, you follow a girl (presumably a model) and her glitz and glamorous lifestyle which ends in nothing but tragedy.
