Today we came across an interesting mix. Carri Munden, the woman behind Cassette Playa, has taken the stylist/art direction of the BBC/Ice Cream Season 6 lookbook into her hands and the outcome is just like everything she touches special and nothing like anything else out there.
The product is already out, but nevertheless the art involved in this collaboration is stunning.
Check out many more pics after the jump and the lookbook here.
Nas has linked with FILA for a one year deal. The company already has ties with Huricane Chris, who is certainly not in Nas’ league, and also promotes the rather awful Prada knockoff Helmsman. Nas cites a long affinity for FILA footwear as part of his decision to ink with the Italian sportswear company. It will be interesting to see if this results in a stronger push of heritage items in the coming year.

Blends presents in collaboration with Oakley “Retrospectacle”, an exhibition about seldom seen Oakley classics from their private museum.
The exhibition opens July 10th and the jewel of the exhibition will be a special colorway of Frogskins developed in collaboration with Blends. The Oakley Frogskin out of the collaboration was inspired by the original gradient coloring found on the Oakley Iridium lens. Only 20 pairs of this special colorway will be made by hand at the Oakley Headquarters and they will only be sold at Blends Los Angeles on the night of the opening, on July 10th.
Check the flyer of the event after the jump.

If you’re a Kanye fan, Louis Vuitton fan, or both, then we’ve got some great news for you. While in Paris’ Jardins de Bagatelle, Kanye teased the fashion world by announcing his collaboration on a men’s shoes line with Louis Vuitton as he says, “I’m here for Louis.” No words on the release yet, but it’s good to start saving up because this will be a collaboration for the ages.

On August 31, 2008 Nike is staging the largest running event of all time. 25 cities. 25 10k events. London, Los Angeles, Paris, Melbourne, Shanghai and Vancouver are among the cities participating.
The event is aiming to pull in a large sum of money for participating charities, including the Lance Armstrong Foundation and the UN Refugee Agency. Runners will be able to race for a cause, as well as say they were part of the worlds largest running event. To get in the mix, log on to nikeplus.com where you can register and also get training tips.
As an extra incentive each of the 25 cities will be treated to a special concert at the race finish site. In LA, Kanye will be hitting the Colieseum. One can only imagine he’ll be sporting a special mock up of his signature shoe. Moby will take Wembley Stadium in London. Fall Out Boy will be in Chicago and Kelly Rowland in Paris (guess she is actually popular somewhere). An excellent event, and one that will surely connect legions of dedicated runners around the world.

If you’re a long time fan of martial arts movies, then you probably feel like you’ve seen it all. After all the classics, it’s no surprise that the genre can get a little formulaic sometimes. But when Thai stunt man Tony Jaa broke out in 2003’s Ong-Bank: Muay Thai Warrior, it was clear that this was different. In an era when impossible moves are faked with wires and CGI, Jaa wowed audiences with his 100% real acrobatics and intense combat skills.
Now the phenom is back in Ong Bak 2, his directorial debut. A promo reel for the movie just leaked to the internet, and it shows an emphasis on some new weapons as well as a stunning fight scene on top of a pack of elephants. Looks like it might live up to the reputation of the original when it hits theaters some time later this year.
Colette is “Seeing Sounds” in Paris. Thanks Sarah.
Don’t forget to pick-up the album!!!!!
If you in LA next week you gotta come to the INSA x ROGUE STATUS launch party…

Spike Lee announced today that he plans to release a full-length feature documentary about Michael Jordan’s second return to the NBA. Spike has already begun piling unseen footage of MJ as a Wizard and hopes to have the film completed in time for next year’s Cannes Film Festival. Info again thanks to Complex.

Today marks the tragic loss of fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent. Over the past 40 years, the French designer helped change the face of women’s fashion by introducing capes, sweaters, trousersuits and blazers—an upscale, professional look that has now become his legacy. He’s even credited with the first usage of pants in a women’s runway show.
Even if you’re not the high-fashion type, Saint Laurent’s influence is all around us: Kanye saw Vegas on acid through his glasses on “Diamonds From Sierra Leone,” and the iconic YSL logo crossed the border into streetwear when the typeface was parodied by the Chicago boutique St. Alfred. In 2002, Laurent sold the brand to Gucci, where the brand continued trailblazing women’s fashion and introduced its men’s line. After the jump, take a look the smoking-hot Kate Moss from this year’s Spring/Summer lookbook, and some of the new menswear. R.I.P. YSL.
Famous London street artist, the Decapitator, is on the move again. The Decapitator is known for removing the heads of people in various advertisements including newspapers and billboards. And it seems that this time Sarah Jessica Parker falls victim to the Decapitator’s signature murdering style, as she poses headless on a Sex and the City billboard on the streets of London.

Film director Spike Lee announced today that he plans to shoot a feature-length documentary about Michael Jordan’s last two years in the NBA, using unseen footage of MJ’s 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons with the Washington Wizards.
Lee, already an out-of-the-closet Jordan sneaker freak who played Mars Blackmon in past Nike commercials, promises the movie won’t be another “fluff piece” that looks back at “His Airness’s” life on and off the court. He hopes the movie will make it into next years Cannes film festival.

After rocking MSG the night before Kanye West performed for a smaller gathering of the who’s who of the sneaker and streetwear industry at the Casio G-Shock 25th Anniversary. Of course Sneaker News was more interested in what Kanye had on his feet, sadly enough he was not wearing his Nike Yeezys instead he had on a pair of Christian Dior super high top sneakers (Thanks Sneaker John for the catch). In addition to his taste for super high top sneakers, he was surrounded by topless dancers for a good part of the performance.

BLENDS in Downtown Los Angeles played host last night for the opening reception of the Skate Study House. Skate Study House is a project that utilizes skateboard decks, wheels, wheel bearings, and other various materials to recreate iconic and timeless furniture pieces found in Case Study Houses. Los Angeles boasts the largest quantity of these influential houses that were built between 1945 and 1966, so it is fitting to see this collection make it to LA.
There was a strong turnout for the event hosted by its designer, Gil Le Bon De Lapointe, Sole Technology CEO, Pierre Andre Senizergues, and the crew at BLENDS LA. Drinks provided by Smartwater and Vitaminwater were flowing as DJ Greyboy played tunes for the attendees to enjoy throughout the night. Dance Right at La Cita hosted the after party where the large crowd ultimately relocated until last call commenced prompting the end of the night’s festivities.
The show will be running for the next week. All pieces are fully functional and for sale throughout the duration of the showing at BLENDS.
We just came across some nice images of the Peter Gronquist Solo Show, “The Revolution Will Be Fabulous: A Weapons of Mass Designer Show”, that is going down at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles.
The artist presents blinged out faux-designer weaponry such as Paul Smith rockets, Louis Vuitton electric chairs and Pacman bombs. Some pieces look really nice and are well fabricated, such as the Louis Vuitton chair, others came off a little cheap, which does not really work if you enter this kind of art. Since he is working with high fashion branding, the pieces also have to look that way. Images via Notcot.

The sign on the building said “Go Ape,” and that’s exactly what the city of West Hollywood did last night (April 23) at the Grand Opening of A Bathing Ape’s first West Coast retail location. The Japanese streetwear store, which opens to the public tomorrow (April 25), was host to some of the biggest names in hip-hop yesterday with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Rick Ross and Jermaine Dupri all stopping by. But it wasn’t just a night for rap, as the event was also highlighted by the appearances of Tennis star Serena Williams, actress Dania Ramirez (X-Men 3, Heroes), actor Jonah Hill, rocker Pete Wentz, soon-to-be drafted NBA player Kevin Love (UCLA) and even Iron Mike Tyson. See some more photos from the event after the jump.
With the opening date, April 25th, getting closer and closer, it looks like Bape Store LA is making some progress. Here we show you some teaser pictures of the upcoming store. It seems that the store will be similar in style to the many other Bape stores around the world including their signature Bape camo print in neon lights, the big “Go Ape” sign in the front, and a wall covered with the blue camouflage print. You can also see the conveyor belt around the curved glass wall that usually carries their shoes. This store will definitely be another great addition to the Melrose shopping scene.

550+ guests packed a retail space on S. La Brea Ave last Thursday night for a launch party of the LRG x Courvoiser co-branded “Pop-Up Shop.” Thong-y actress Mena Suvari, gossip blogger Perez Hilton, Fly-Society front man Terry Kennedy and TV personalities Michelle Marie and Jill Wilderman all made cameos at the jam, while other tastemakers sipped on Courvoisier Exclusif, and head-nodded to tracks spun by DJ Vice. The décor was packed with the LRG/Courvoiser product mash-ups ranging from special makeup iPods, iPhones to Salvage Denim and Cashmere Leather Jackets. Check out some flicks after the jump.

Once again Bape worked with Wonderwall on their most recent store in Japan in Harajuku.
” For the Bape store, after discussions with Nigo, we decided to create a store that felt like a town within a building with an American diner flair. However, for the top floor, a sense of playfulness was added with a colonial style resort inspired space.”
Another impressive Bape store that you should not miss going to on your next Japan trip. Have a detailed look at the entire store after the jump.
